GIBSON Update: Yesterday, July 27th, GIBSON was scheduled for his third Chemo Therapy treatment. Due to a low Platelat count, his treatments have had to be rescheduled sometime in the next 7-10 days. Platelats are irregularly shaped, colorless bodies that are present in blood. Their sticky surface lets them, along with other substances, form clots to stop bleeding. Low Platelats are a pretty common side-effect when giving the Chemo Drug-Carboplatin. His platelat level IS back on the rise & returning to a good count, as we speak! Other than that GIB is in great spirits and an amazingly strong Boy. He did some therapy-dog work yesterday & went out to do fun things like getting his favorite strawberry & milkbone doggy ice creamish/yogurt treat, made especially by Lazy-Dog Ice Cream Co. (Thanks Bob & Deb). He loves going along so I can do my errands and shopping. He is an instant attraction to ALL who see him. So he gets LOTS of pets and attention from kids from 1 to 101! I am very proud announce that GIBSON has been nominated as a finalist in the AKC “Ace” Awards. (You can see his certificate on this website) Winner will be announced in August. (also go to www.akc.org for more info on these prestigious awards.) YES- I am a PROUD Mom………….(“Good-Boy” GIB!!) Also, we are speaking with a Canine Cancer Organization called PINK PAWS for LIFE, and getting involved in speaking out & addressing, specifically, Canine Bone Cancer. (We lost another friend in New Jersey this week, “SAMMI” who’s Mom, Jan & Family, are holding strong, in the loss of SAMMI’s fight with Cancer. ) I hear from people EVERYDAY who are watching their canine-kids fight this horrible disease. GIB & I are bringing an awareness to canine cancer, and this drive will only get bigger & better in the upcoming months! More Later ….. But for now, Warmest Wags – Sandy & GIB^..^

Comment by tallestdog July 29, 2009 @ 10:35 pmHi Gibson:
My name is Dozer and I am a 6 year old dane. I was diagnosed last October with this terrible cancer in my right hind leg. My amputation was on November 13th and I had 6 rounds of chemo. They alternated between cisplatin and adriamycin. It’s been about nine months now in this fight but I still get around pretty good although some days better than others.
My Mom & Dad got a lot of help from the bonecancerdogs group on yahoo as well as http://www.bonecancerdogs.org/
I have my videos on youtube and my Aunt molly as well as our cat bandit ar in them too.

Wishing you all the best (we know how hard this fight is) Your pal Dozer.

Comment by Elisa Karoline August 11, 2009 @ 9:35 amI only just learned about Gibson a short while ago in the news… wanted to pass on my condolences; those who have loved and been loved by an animal understand *hugs*
Comment by Jodie August 13, 2009 @ 2:15 amSandy,
I was so sorry to hear the news about Gibson’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you. It was an honor to have met Gibson and of course you too, as I am a fellow Daniac. I can picture Gibson now – waiting for you across the Rainbow Bridge greeting you with his famous “I Love You”
Take care,
Pam Herrenkohl
Comment by Pam Herrenkohl August 13, 2009 @ 3:39 amHave just read about Gibson passing, my deepest empathy in your time of loss, I had to make the same decision for my cherished Nikki, and I know the pain you are feeling, he will greet you at the gates when you are together once again. Rest in Peace sweet Gibson, and May God Bless you and help you to heal. Gone but never from our souls.
Comment by cindy August 13, 2009 @ 10:03 ami am very sorry to hear about Gibson passing, we have battled osteosarcoma with 2 of our danes and we understand the fight…it is a very tough one and not won often. i have enjoyed watching you and your majestic dog in the news. nothing matches the purity of the love of a dog and for a dog. my heart is with you.
Comment by martha August 13, 2009 @ 11:57 amI read the story of your dog passing and it is very sad indeed, I know I would be very sad if it was my dog. I also know the finacial cost to fight medical issues can be very high as well. How ever I think it is horrid to ask for donations for your dog passing away! I mean in these times it is tough for everyone, also I am sure you made money off him during his life now you are trying to prey on peoples sadness and gain off him in his death. maybe all the talk show hosts that had you on tv can help you again, instead of asking for money from strangers.

You probably can`t read, can you? Shame on you to judge others for the good they do. Shame on you for feeling a victim cause your life is not as you would wish it to be. Shame on you that you post these words with no respect.
Oh, and then this:
Shame on you.
Comment by walt August 13, 2009 @ 7:10 pmI am sorry to hear Gibson is away. I send you my love for what you have done for him. Such a great dog. Better know and NEVER forget he is there, looking over you. Trust me. I know.
My arm is around you.
Walter
Comment by walt August 13, 2009 @ 7:07 pmThe person who made the totally insensitive remarks has obviously never experienced receiving a dogs love and devotion let alone a passing, ashamed they should be, for they know not what they say.Gibson, you gave your all whilst on this earth, now rest in peace.
Comment by paul clements August 13, 2009 @ 7:47 pmSaying goodbye is so hard. I have friends who lost their Danes recently too. If only this breed lived longer. I wanted to meet Gibson. I would have gladly driven to Grass Valley with my harlequin Dane to meet him long enough to take a few photos. Sandy, consider yourself the luckiest Dane owner in the history of the breed to have been blessed with having Gibson as your own and I think you are a wonderful person for sharing his greatness with the world. Gibson will be famous forever!
